Statement on the implementation of article 191 A “Air traffic” of the Geneva constitution
Positions
9 May, 2023

On November 24, 2019, the population of Geneva accepted the cantonal initiative 163 “For a democratic management of Geneva Airport”. In order to implement the new Article 191 A “Air Traffic” of the Geneva Constitution, the State Council adopted on February 24, 2021 a draft amendment to the Airport Law (LAIG). This implementation project is based on four axes:

  • Establishing a legal framework for the agreement of objectives between the airport and the State;
  • Include the context of the definitive aeronautical infrastructure sector plan (PSIA) of October 25, 2021 in the cantonal law;
  • To act on the principle of validation of the strategy and the medium and long term business plan by the Grand Council;
  • Strengthen the role of the consultative commission accompanying the evolution of the platform by giving it the role of an official commission.

Some of its founding members have had the opportunity to participate in a broad consultation of interested parties. AERIA+ believes that the project to implement the new constitutional article clearly meets the expectations of the population in terms of quality of life, reduction of pollution and participation in the choices related to the development of the airport infrastructure, while giving regional economic actors the necessary leeway to assert their needs.
